Llama: The Gentle Nomads

The llama, native to South America, is an icon of mountainous grasslands that often border savanna-like ecosystems. Known for their gentle nature and resilience, llamas have been domesticated for centuries, used as pack animals and sources of wool.

Llamas are highly social animals, living in herds led by a dominant male. They communicate through a range of vocalizations and even facial expressions. One amusing behavior is their tendency to spit when annoyed, especially during disputes over food or territory.

Wild llamas, or guanacos, are agile and fast runners, capable of reaching speeds of up to 56 km/h (35 mph) to escape predators. They graze on tough grasses and shrubs, contributing to seed dispersal and maintaining grassland health.
